Join us as we officially launch Abortion Talk, a new charity destigmatising abortion through conversation.
Monday 28th June 7-8.30pm (UK time)
About this event
Abortion Talk is a new charity breaking the silence around abortion by creating spaces for anyone affected by their experience to talk and be heard.
Abortion is one of the most common procedures in the UK and a normal and routine part of healthcare, yet it is often not spoken about and surrounded by silence, which can lead to stigma and feelings of shame.
Through our talkline, training and workshops, we aim to tackle this by creating a safe, non-judgmental space for anyone to talk about abortion, whether they’ve had an abortion, are thinking about having an abortion, know someone who has had an abortion or work in an abortion service.
We are a group of abortion nerds (including researchers, healthcare providers and advocates), united in our belief and support of safe, inclusive and accessible abortion support for everyone. We believe that it takes a community effort to create a world free from abortion stigma, and we would love you to join us and support us on our mission!
On the evening, guests will hear the personal story of how and why Abortion Talk came into being and meet one of the Founders along with members of the team. There will also be a panel discussion and Q+A with providers and advocates around the need for, and impact of destigmatising abortion for providers and patients alike. This will be followed by a screening of a video from Doctors for Choice and we will end the evening by announcing the winners of our raffle.
To enter the raffle, please select the ‘Raffle Ticket’ option when you go to register for the event and make a donation to Abortion Talk. We are extremely grateful for all donations, as they will help us ensure the running of the talkline and the provision of our workshops.
If you would like to donate to Abortion Talk, but don’t want to be entered into the raffle and/or cannot join us for the launch, click on ‘Register’ and choose the ‘Donation (no raffle)’ option. We are extremely grateful for all donations, as they will help us ensure the running of the talkline and the provision of our workshops.
