Kellie O’Dowd

Kellie O’Dowd is Project Manager of the newly established Abortion Talk charity, and a founder member of Reclaim the Agenda, the organising committee for feminist action in Northern Ireland and International Women’s day. She has been involved in the activist group Alliance for Choice Belfast since 2008 and was co-chair from 2012 until 2019, when decriminalisation was finally achieved in Northern Ireland. She is a feminist and trade union activist, and was one of the first clinic escorts in Belfast for the Marie Stopes Clinic 2014-17 to stop the harassment by anti-choice protestors of women trying to access healthcare services .

Kellie has been facilitating workshops on abortion for ten years in the community, trade union and voluntary sectors. She has published academic research on the issue of abortion and best practice strategies when working in morally conservative settings. Her research interests include abortion education and teaching controversial issues in Northern Ireland using abortion as the case study.
